Student Life
American School Online is build so students can flexibly learn in a way that is convenient for them. With a mix of live online courses, self-paced classes and exams, and summer programs such as camps, students excel in their own way. Adjustable learning means students have time for extracurriculars, sports, and internships. American School Online teachers and staff work closely with students to make sure they are on track and connected to other students and opportunities. In the examples below, both Wei and Michelle are pseudonyms.
For example, a sample day for Wei, an international student from Asia might be:
- Morning: Attend a live Math Challenge online class via Zoom (held in the evening US time) plus time to study and work on homework.
- Afternoon: Work on self-paced humanities courses plus their independent research project. Later in the afternoon attend their local football (soccer) team’s practice.
- Evening: Additional study time, time for relaxation, and practice for the upcoming USA Computing Olympiad contest they are competing in.
Meanwhile Michelle, a gifted student and singer in the US is following their own personalized schedule:
- Morning: Attend literature and history courses at the local state university and catch up on their homework.
- Afternoon: Meet with their vocal coach and spend time in the studio recording a new song. Later in the afternoon attend a live Math Challenge online course via Zoom (with her friend Wei!).
- Evening: Time for some relaxation, reading for her literature and history courses, and study for the AP exam she’s self-studying for.
During summer and winter breaks, both Wei and Michelle attend onsite programs where they get to learn with like-minded peers from around the world.
